VATICAN: Set of the Commander's Cross in the
Order of Saint Sylvester.
With the respective miniature cross and lapel
badge in stickpin format.
In its box of issue by Alberti in Milan, with the
Coat of Arms of Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) on
the lid.
The Order of Saint Sylvester was initially
instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1841 and
was reformed in this form in 1905.
It is awarded to non clergy, men and women
who actively promote the cause and welfare
of the Catholic Church through their personal
and professional lives.
This is an Italian made, WW2 era example
of the 1940s.
