Sweden: His Majesty The King's Medal (or Court
Medal) - Silver Class.
King Gustaf VI Adolf issue.
Maker marked "MJV" (The Royal Mint), marked
"Silver" and dated 1960 on the rim.
Note the "key chain ring", which was typical for
several Swedish medals of the period.
The medal was created in 1814 and was initially
awarded exclusively as a Court or Royal
Household medal.
Currently, it is awarded to Swedish and foreign
citizens for special merits as well as to officials
at the Royal Court.
Since 1975 it is the 2nd highest award, after the
Seraphim Medal, that can be bestowed to
Swedish citizens.
The medals with the portrait of King Gustaf VI
Adolf were awarded during the period 1950-1973.
The medal is rare.
