Product Information
Specification
Netherlands: WW2 Cross of Merit, 1941.
On the reverse: VOOR VERDIENSTE ("For
Merit")
The Cross was instituted in 1941 the Dutch
government in exile in London.
It was awarded for meritorious services in
the interest of the Netherlands in connection
with enemy actions, but not necessarily
related to front line operations.
The Cross could be awarded to both military
and civilian, Dutch and non-Dutch citizens.
During WW2 it had often been awarded to
those who managed to flee to England as
well as to those who joined the Armed
Resistance.
The medal was rarely awarded after the
Korean War, but since the Dutch army was
involved in the operations in Afghanistan
and Uruzgan, this WW2 decoration has been
awarded again, on a regular basis, with the
latest on 7 Oct. 2009 to 11 Dutch soldiers.
The Cross was made by Spink & Son and
J. R. Gaunt & Son during WW2 and in the
Netherlands after 1945.
The Cross is rare.
This is a WW2 example.
