This is the 3rd type of the SA-Sports Badge,
issued since 1939, marked on the reverse:
Eigentum der Obersten SA-Führung (Property
of the SA Command)
The badge was instituted on 28 Nov. 1933 by
the at the time Chief of the Sturmabteilung
(Storm Detachment - SA) Ernst Rohm. Until
1935 it was only issued in bronze to men,
members of the SA, who were active in sports
to raise public health.
Since Feb. 1935, non-members of age 18 to 35
were also allowed to acquire the badge by
successfully completing 3 groups of exercises
(athletic exercises, basic military exercises (i.e.
hand grenade targeting) and field exercises
(i.e. orientation in the field).
The Badge since 1935 was awarded in 3
classes (bronze, silver and gold) - the higher
classes required regular repetition of the
exercises.
