Specification
Italy: WW2 Commemorative medal for the return in 
service of the Battleship RN Duilio, following the 
completion of her modernization in 1940. 
With the motto: "Nomen-Numen" (The Name of 
God) below a Roman war ship. 
Dated A. XVIII (Fascist date for Aug. 1940)
RN Duilio, named after the Roman admiral Gaius 
Duilius, was the second of the two Andrea Doria-
class battleships built for the Royal Italian Navy 
(Regia Marina) in the 1910s. 
She served during WW1 and during the Corfu 
Incident in 1923. 
She was rebuilt and modernized between 1937 
and 1940.
During WW2 she was hit by British torpedo-
bombers at Taranto in 1940. 
She survived the war and continued to serve in 
the Italian Navy until 1953 (she even served as 
the fleet flagship in 1947-1949). 
RN Duilio was scrapped in 1954.
A scarce medal.
