Italy: WW2 Commemorative badge for the
Albanian and Italian personnel of the Italian
Army for the Campaign against Greece
and Yugoslavia during the Italian occupation
of Albania.
With its envelope of issue by SIM (Italian
Medal Association) in Rome.
The award was instituted in May 1942 by the
Ministerial Order N. 356 and awarded by the
"Albanian Government" to the Albanian and
Italian military personnel who have took part
in the operations in Albania, Greece and
Yugoslavia between 28 Oct. 1940 and 23 Apr.
1941.
Albania since the Italian occupation of 1939
was declared an Italian protectorate and
Albanian soldiers and Units participated
alongside the Italian Army in the Campaign
both against Greece and Yugoslavia.
Inscribed on the on the obverse side:
“SHQIPNIA, USHTAREVE NGALLNJYESA TE
ROMES”
(Albania, to the victorious soldiers of Rome),
Also on the obverse:
- The Knot of Savoia.
- The helmet and the sword of Skenderbg -
Georgios Kastriotis (Byzantine-Albanian
national hero of the 15th Centrury.
He defended Epirus - Albania against the
Turks. The helmet and the sword are being
exhibited at the Art and History Museum in
Vienna, Austria).
Maker marked: Italian Medal Association,
Rome - a rare maker.
