ITALY: Medal of Merit for the Liberation of Rome.
Maker marked: C.M. (Cesare Moscetti) and signed
as well C. Moscetti.
The medal was established in 1870 by the

the City and annexed it into the united Italian
Kingdom.
In 1870, following the Franco - Prussian War,
France could no longer guarantee the
Independence of the Papal States and the Italian
Forces grabbed the chance and stormed the City
