Greece: WW1 War Cross of 1916 - 1917, 3rd class.
This is the rarest version of the medal, by the French sculptur and 
medalist Andre Rivaud (marked: "L. Sue pinx, A.A. Rivaud sculp, 
Salonique 1917").
The Crosses of this type were made and issued during the war at 
the Macedonian front.
The medal was instituted in Thessaloniki (Salonika - Salonique) by 
decree of the Revolutionary Government in 1916 and was issued 
for bravery in the field during the WW1, the expedition in Soviet 
Russia (Ukraine - 1920) and the expedition in Asia Minor (1920 - 1922). 
On the obverse with the Ancient Spartan inscription 
"Η ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ" (Return victorious with your shield or return dead 
on it) and "ΕΛΛΑΣ' (Hellas - Greece) 1916 - 1917 on the reverse.
