Germany WW1 Royal Order Louise Prussia with Crown 2nd Contingent 1st Class Cross Ladies Civil Military Medal Kaiser Wilhelm II Great War 1914 1918

Product Information

Imperial Germany – Kingdom of Prussia: Cross of the Royal Order
of Louise with Silver Crown, 2nd Contingent, 1st Class, in its box
of issue. Late example of the post WW1 period dated 1914-1918 on
the reverse of the central medallion.
The Order was instituted by Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1814, to
honor his late wife Queen Louise (Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie
of Mecklenburg-Strelitz).
The Order was intended strictly for women whose services to Germany
(in fields related to the aid and the relief of the wounded soldiers and
other humanitarian services) were worthy of such high national
recognition. Initially the Order was awarded for services during the
Napoleonic Wars but every subsequent Kaiser renewed the Order
until the fall of Monarchy, after the end of WW1.
In its last form the Order had 2 Contingents, with 2 Classes each,
while the 1st Class of each Contingent could be awarded with or
without crown. The Order continued to be awarded by the German
Royal Family until the 1930s.
This is a late example, of the post WW1 era, dated 1914-1914 on
the reverse.
