Specification
Imperial Germany - Kingdom of Wurttemberg:
King Wilhelm's II Gold (gilt) Medal for Loyalty,
Bravery and Military Merit (or simply Medal for
Military Merit).
This is the 5th type of the medal, in bronze gilt.
On the obverse: The Portrait of King Wilhelm II.
On the reverse: Inscribed "Fur Tapferkeit und
Treue" (For Bravery and Loyalty).
The medal was instituted in this form (5th) in 1892.
It was awarded mainly to Officers for exceptional
bravery before the enemy.
The medal could also be awarded to NCOs and
Other Ranks provided they had previously
received the Iron Cross 1st Class.
It was discontinued in 1918 after the end of WW1
and the fall of the Monarchy.
A total of 4200 Gold Military Merit Medals were
awarded all of them in gold of different purity.
This is not one of the issued medals.
This is a period made example of the medal,
privately ordered for use most likely on a medal
bar.
