Specification
Imperial Germany - Prussia: Commemorative
Medal for the Suppression of the Republican
Insurrection in the Principality of Neuchatel, in
1831. In silver.
Obverse (in French): "Fidelity to Duty and
Homeland".
Reverse: The Coat of Arms of the Principality of
Neuchatel below the Prussian Crown.
The Principality of Neuchatel was brought once
again under the Prussian sovereignty in 1813,
during the Napoleonic Wars.
In 1831, Neuchatel revolted, cut its ties to Prussia
and declared the formation of an independent
Republic.
The insurrection however was swiftly crushed by
the Prussian Army.
The medal was instituted in 1832 by King
Friedrich Wilhelm III to commemorate the
suppression of the 1831 Revolt of Neuchatel.
It was awarded to all the inhabitants of the
Principality who participated in the suppression
of the rebellion or who have acknowledged the
maintenance of Prussian law and order.
