Imperial Germany - Principality of Hohenzollern: 
Hohenzollern Gold (gilt) Medal for Merit with 
Golden (gilt) Swords, 3rd type, 1842. 
The swords were added on the medal in 1866 and 
were awarded for 1st time in 1871. 
The medal was awarded to the men of the Infantry 
Regiment N.40 under the command of Prince Carl 
Anton and during WW1 under the command of 
Prince Wilhelm of Hohenzollern. 
A rare medal as the population of the Principality, 
at the time, was below 70.000 inhabitants.
A nice privately made period example.
