Product Information
Specification
France: WW2 "O.R.A." insignia - badge, for the
members of the Resistance Organization of the
Army.
Low numbered: "95" on the reverse.
The Organisation de Resistance de l'Armee -
O.R.A. (Resistance Organization of the Army)
was created on 31 Jan. 1943, following the Nov.
1942 German invasion of the French Zone
Libre, as an apolitical organization of the
former French military personnel in pursuit of
active resistance against the Germans, but
rejecting Charles de Gaulle.
The ORA was founded by General Aubert Frere,
president of the tribunal which had condemned
de Gaulle to death in August 1940.
Frere was arrested in 1943 and died in Struthof
on 13 Jun. 1944.
In 01 Feb. 1944, the ORA amalgamated with the
AS- "Secret Army" (Armee Secrete) and the
FTP-"Snipers and Partisans" (Francs-Tireurs
et Partisans) to form the FFI (French Forces
of the Interior).
The badge is scarce as ORA is estimated to
have less than 2500 members in total.
