Specification
FRANCE: Colonial medal. Silver (bronze, silver
plated), bifacial.
With the "Extreme Orient" (Far East) clasp.
Rare version, based on the 1st type of the
medal, without the designer's "GL" monogram
(for George Lemaire).
This is an example of the 1930s, marked with
the word "Bronze" and with Arthus Bertrand's
triangle mark on the rim.
The Colonial medal was established in 1893
and was awarded to military personnel who
operated in French protectorates and
colonies.
In total there are established 52 official and
63 unofficial bars for the colonial medal.
The award was replaced in 1962 by the
Overseas Medal.
