FRANCE: Red Cross Medal, of the Association of
French Women (ADF).
Attributed to: Mle E. Hazard (Mademoiselle/Miss
E. Hazard).
The ADF was established in 1879, while in 1881
several of its members left to form the Union of
the Women of France (UFF).
The aim of ADF was purely humanitarian ("the
preparation and organization of relief resources
that can be made available locally to the sick or
wounded of the French army").
In 1940, the ADF together with the French Society
of Aiding the Wounded and the UFF merged and
formed the French Red Cross.
The named medals of the ADF are rarely seen in
the market.
