France: Silver Medal of Honor of the French 
Ministry of Interior for Acts of Courage and 
Devotion .
The medal was instituted in 1820 by King Louis 
XVIII and it is awarded to recognize acts of 
courage and devotion in situations where the 
recipient puts his/hers own life in risk while 
attempting to save other people's lives. 
This is the silver class of the medal in silvered 
bronze, hallmarked by the Paris Mint on the rim 
and signed by Coudray. 
This class is awarded to recipients of the bronze 
medal who met the requirements for a 2nd award 
due to a 2nd life-saving action.
The medal remains in use in this form since 1889.
This is a WW1 era example.
