FRANCE: Overseas Medal with clasps "Tchad"
(Chad) and "Liban" (Lebanon).
The bars were respectively awarded for the
Colonial conflict that led to the Independence
of Chad (1960) and for the UN peacekeeping
mission following the Israeli invasion in
Lebanon in 1978.
The Colonial medal was established in 1893.
The Overseas Medal replaced the Colonial
medal in 1962.
It is awarded to military personnel who
operated overseas, usually in the former
French colonies and protectorates. The areas
of service are indicated by a gilt campaign
clasp. Currently there are 13 such clasps
established.
