Merit, 2nd Class, 1899.
Obverse: The portrait of Emperor Menelik II.
Reverse: Lion of Judah. 
The medal was instituted in 1899, in 2 classes 
(gold and silver) to reward meritorious military 
and civil services by those of a rank and 
status not warranting admission to the orders 
of chivalry, non-commissioned officers and 
other ranks or equivalent civil grades.  
It is notable that the 2 classes of the medal 
were awarded with different ribbons.
