Product Information
Specification
Kingdom of Bulgaria: Silver Commemorative
Military Medal for the Serbian-Bulgarian War of
1885. Bronze example for non combatants.
Issued by Prince Alexander I in 1885.
With the major battles of the War (Slivnitsa,
Gorgulyta, Breznik, Dragoman, Caribrod, Pirot,
Vidin) and the phrase: "The Country Thanks its
Brave Sons" inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse.
The War (14 - 28 Nov. 1885) was triggered
following Bulgaria's unilateral declaration of
annexation of the province of Eastern Rumelia.
Serbia invaded Bulgaria but after initial success
the Serb forces were repelled in defeat and only
the diplomatic intervention (and threat of military
intervention as well) from the Austro-Hungarian
Empire kept the Bulgarian troops from invading
Serbia.
The bronze medal is a lot rarer compared to the
silver one for the combatants.
