Belgium: WW2 Cross of the 6th Battalion of the
Belgian Fusiliers for the Battle of the Ardennes
(Battle of the Bulge) and the Campaign in
Germany 1944-1945.
The medal is very similar in shape with the
Belgian WW1 Fire Cross and it is scarce.
On the obverse: In the center of the medal a
crowned cross placed over a laurel wreath.
The digit "6" over two crossed rifles in the
center of the Cross. Vertical inscriptions
"ARDENNES 44/45" and "ALLEMAGNE 44/45"
(Germany 40/45) on the left and right sides.
On the reverse: Inscribed" "6th Battalion of
Fusiliers, Remember".
The 6th Battalion of the Belgian Fusiliers was
one of the 57 infantry battalions that were
formed in the liberated areas of Belgium
after Oct. 1944. The Battalion was attached to
the US 1st Army and saw fierce combat action
during the Battle of the Bulge (also known as
the Ardennes Counteroffensive).
It participated in the invasion of Germany
(1945) where it played a supporting role, such
as securing lines of communication and
policing occupied areas.
