BELGIUM: Set of 7 WW1 medals, together with
the diploma that was issued for participation
in the battle of Yser in 1914 (it also stands as
certificate for the award of the Yser Cross).
The diploma is signed by King Albert (unsure
whether the signature is handwritten or printed)
and states the Official Medals the recipient was
awarded by the Belgian Government for his
participation in the Great War.
All the stated medals are included in the set with
the exception of the Civic Cross 1914-1918, 1st
Class that was not found together with the rest
of the medals. The set includes a photo of the
recipient.
Rare example of the Yser diploma, awarded to
a Flemish soldier (bilingual entries while the
language used to describe the medals is
Flemish).
The medals, from left to right, as presented in
the 1st photo, are:
- Belgian WW1 Commemorative medal
- WW1 Yser Cross
- Belgian WW1 War Cross with Bronze Lion
citation (Regimental level).
- Belgian WW1 Victory Medal, official type.
- Belgian WW1 Liege Medal (unofficial medal,
hence not included in the diploma)
