Belgium: Patriotic medal for the battle of 
Liege in 1914.
On the obverse: The portraits of the Belgian 
Royal Couple (King Albert & Queen Elisabeth). 
On the reverse: "Glory to the Brave at Liege  - 
8 August 1914". 
Singed by L. Desmeth.
The Belgian Army defended Liege against the 
assault of the German forces in 1914 ( 5 -16 
Aug.). 
The city garrison of 70.000 Belgians and 12 
forts managed to repulse the initial attacks of 
the German 2nd Army (General Ludendorff,
320.000 men) but the city finaly fell to the 
German hands.
