Austro-Hungarian Empire: WW1 patriotic cap 
badge of the 1st Army Corps.
Inscribed "We Stood by Kirchbach at the 1st 
Corps".
The inscription refers to the Commander of 
the 1st Army Corps, General of the Cavalry 
Karl Freiherr von Kirchbach auf Lauterbach 
(Count von Kirchbach).
Also inscribed "Sokal" (a small town in former 
Eastern Galicia) where in the aftermath of the 
Battle of Gorlice-Tarnow (May 1915) the 1st 
Army Corps, together with the Szurmay Group, 
managed to build a bridgehead and crossed 
the River Bug.
The 1st Army Corps was stationed in Krakow 
(Crakow) and was manned with personnel 
from Galicia, Silesia and Moravia.
At the start of WW1, it consisted of the 5th & 
12th Infantry Divisions, 7th Cavalry Division, 
1st Field Artillery Brigade, 2nd Fort Artillery 
Brigade and the 1st Train Division.
The Corps fought mainly on the Eastern Front.
