Austro-Hungarian Empire - Imperial Germany:
Patriotic badge, in stickpin format, with the
portrait of the German Generalfeldmarschall
Paul von Hindenburg (Field Marshal Paul von
Hindenburg).
Following the outbreak of WW1 in Jul. 1914,
Hindenburg (who was retired from the Army
in 1911) was recalled to military service and
quickly achieved fame on the Eastern Front
as the victor of Tannenberg. Subsequently,
he oversaw a crushing series of victories
against the Russians that made him a national
hero and the center of a massive personality
cult.
These badges were issued for fund raising
purposes in order to support the war effort.
The badge is rather rare.110
